FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 31, 2003 Contact: Leslie Kupchella 651-296-0001 GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS SENATOR CAL LARSON TO THE SEAWAY PORT AUTHORITY OF DULUTH Saint Paul - Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of State Senator Cal Larson as a Commissioner on the Seaway Port Authority of Duluth. Larson, of Fergus Falls, has a strong interest in areas which affect the Duluth port, including natural resources, economic development and international trade. For the past twelve years, he has represented Minnesota on the Great Lakes Commission. Larson began his legislative service in the Minnesota House of Representatives, serving 1966-74. In 1986, he was elected to the Minnesota Senate and is currently serving his sixth term there. Larson is a former president of the Fergus Falls Rotary Club and former chair of the Concordia College Board of Regents. He received a B.A. degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Larson is appointed to a six-year term ending January 5, 2009. He replaces Sharon Clark on the Board of Commissioners. The Seaway Port Authority of Duluth fosters regional maritime and trade development and serves as an advocate for port interests. The Port Authority is an independent public agency which manages two tax increment financing districts, owns waterfront properties, and an industrial park near Duluth International Airport. The Port Authority is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners, including two members appointed by the Governor. |
