IMMEDIATE RELEASE             July 23, 2004

Duluth, Minn., U.S.A.-A North Dakota company is scheduled to take delivery next week of the Port of Duluth-Superior's first inbound maritime cargo of plate steel for wind turbine towers.

About 2,050 metric tons is scheduled to arrive July 25 (Sunday) aboard the Dutch carrier Moezelborg for construction of wind turbine towers in West Fargo, N.D. The cargo was shipped from Svendborg, Denmark.

Lake Superior Warehousing, Co., Inc., will begin unloading the plate steel at 8 a.m. on July 26 (Monday) at Duluth's Clure Public Marine Terminal. Local agent for the vessel is Guthrie-Hubner, Inc., and customs broker is A.N. Deringer, Inc.

Routing of the cargo through Duluth was the result of a joint marketing effort by the Port Authority and Lake Superior Warehousing to handle this type of equipment.

“Wind turbines are a growing trend as people seek clean forms of alternative energy,” said Port Authority Marketing Director Ron Johnson.

“We’re hoping to establish Duluth as a regular route for this type of cargo as more and more wind farms are constructed in the region,” he said.

The 440-foot multi-purpose dry cargo carrier Moezelborg, built in 1999 in the Netherlands, is operated by Wagenborg Shipping, Delfzijl, Netherlands.
