IMMEDIATE RELEASE             January 21, 2004

Duluth, Minn., U.S.A.—St. Louis County Commissioner Steve Raukar of Hibbing, Minn., has been reappointed to the Duluth Seaway Port Authority Board of Commissioners by the County Board.

The County Board originally appointed Raukar to the Port Authority Board in 1998, and he currently serves as the Port Authority Board’s vice president.

Raukar was originally elected to the St. Louis County Board’s Seventh District in 1989. He is current chair of the County Board and serves on 16 additional committees, boards and commissions. He has served from 1999 to 2004 as chair of the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, and also chairs the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency, the Arrowhead Regional Corrections and the Northeast Waste Advisory Committee. He is past chair and current vice chair of the St. Louis County/Lake County Regional Rail Authority.

A native of Hibbing, Raukar is a 1974 graduate of St. Cloud State University. He and his wife Patricia have two children and three grandchildren.

The Port Authority’s seven-member board is made up of three appointees by the Duluth City Council, two by the governor and two by the St. Louis County Board. Each appointment is for six years.

Other Port Authority Board members are Bill Kron, Duluth, president; Janet E. Nelson, Duluth, Secretary; Helena E. Jackson, Duluth, treasurer; Tom Cashman, Mankato, assistant treasurer; Thomas A. Clure, Duluth, and Cal Larson, Fergus Falls.
