IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Duluth, Minn., U.S.A.—St. Louis County Commissioner Bill Kron was reelected to his eighth term as Duluth Seaway Port Authority president at the board's annual meeting held March 19.  This reappointment continues Kron’s reign as the longest serving president in the history of the Port Authority.

The county board originally appointed Kron to the Port Authority board in 1992. He was chair of the county board in 2007 and is present chair of the county board’s economic development committee and the environment and natural resources committee.   

Kron's background includes experience in the U.S. Navy, and as a steel plant worker, schoolteacher and small business operator. He has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He and his wife and family reside in Duluth.

Steve Raukar, Hibbing, a St. Louis County commissioner since 1989, was reelected to his sixth term as Port Authority vice president. He was originally appointed to the board in January 1998 by the county board.

The other officers are Janet E. Nelson, Duluth, secretary; Thomas Clure, Duluth, treasurer, and Cal Larson, Fergus Falls, assistant treasurer. They are joined on the board by Ray Klosowski, Duluth, and Lowell Hellervik, St. Paul.

The Port Authority's seven-member board is made up of two appointees by the governor, two by the St. Louis County Board and three by the Duluth City Council. Each appointment is for six years.
