On a Lark

The Rubin Lark, one of six new Seaway-size vessels recently built in Japan, made her first migration to Duluth via water in June. Sporting a pastel stack, she onalark.jpg (26855 bytes)was loaded at Duluth's General Mills elevator with 14,500 metric tons of spring wheat for Continental Grain Co. destined for Tarragona, Spain. The Philippine-flag bulk carrier is the fifth of six sister-ships sharing the first name Rubin and having the last names of Hawk, Falcon, Eagle, Stork, Lark and Halcyon. The 486-foot long, 74.8-foot wide Lark is owned by Manila Sealink Corporation and operated by Keishin Kaiun, Hakata, Japan. General agent for the vessel was Navix Line, Tokyo. The local agent was Guthrie-Hubner Inc., Duluth, American Grain Trimmers Inc., Duluth, served as stevedore. All six vessels were built at Shikoku Dockyard, Takamatsu.
