Port hosts trade mission

The U.S. Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation launched a two-week Great Lakes/Seaway domestic trade mission at the Seaway Port Authority of Duluth in August.

Acting Administrator David G. Sanders met with Port representatives to seek their views on Great Lakes-Seaway issues such as the Oberstar-Comuzzi Binational Seaway Plan, the Corportion's proposal to become the federal government's first Performance-Based Organization and development of new trade opportunities.

While here, Mr. Sanders congratulated the Port Authority on receiving the Seaway Development Corporation's Pacesetter award. The award is presented annually to ports that exceed the prior year's St. Lawrence seaway tonnage. Duluth-Superior is the only port that has received the award every year since the program started five years ago.

Corporation officials spent two weeks touring U.S. and Canadian Great Lakes ports and meeting with industry representatives.
