Ship of Mercy

The Caribbean Mercy, operated by a Christian relief agency, Mercy Ships, spent three weeks of July in the Port of Duluth-Superior as part of a Great Lakes tour. Duluth Mayor Gary Doty presented Mercy Ships CEO Brett Curtis with a welcoming proclamation during a civic and media reception. The Caribbean Mercy was hereshipofmercy.jpg (19544 bytes) to collect donations of cargo, recruit volunteers and raise funds. The vessel is part of a three-ship Mercy fleet which travels to developing countries providing free medical services and relief and construction supplies. Manned by volunteer crews of non-salaried professionals from 30 countries, the vessels are operated solely through donations. Approximately 4,500 people visited the Caribbean Mercy during her stay.
