The Twin Ports, in living watercolor

js1x.jpg (11228 bytes)Marine Tech’s brightly colored dredge barge … the geometric puzzle of a Port Terminal gantry crane … an icy oceangoing vessel at Cargill’s grain loading dock … the thunder of Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railway’s taconite dock. This is the essence of the Port of Duluth- Superior’s waterfront as captured by local artist John Salminen.

The Seaway Port Authority of Duluth commissioned Mr. Salminen to paint these watercolors for use in its boardroom. You might remember his perspective of the Fraser Shipyards, as presented on our cover two years ago. Mr. Salminen lives in Duluth, where he divides his time between teaching and painting. He has won many awards for his work and is exhibited nationally and internationally.
