Grain export shipments were up

Grain shipments from the Port of Duluth-Superior to international destinations in 1999 increased 10 percent from the year before.

(see larger version of chart below)

The top three grains were nearly dead even in volume, with wheat totaling 1,589,822 metric tons, corn 1,545,877 tons and soybeans 1,520,849.

The remaining grains included sunflower seeds (89,195), beet pulp pellets (53,156), barley (42,559), canola (20,652) and peas (8,608).

These figures exclude domestic grain shipments and Canadian imports, which brought the grand total for import/export grain to 5,282,690 metric tons. (A metric ton equals 2,204.6 pounds.)
