TRB convenes
in Duluth
More than 200 private and public
transportation officials from North America and Europe were in Duluth
for four days in July when the Port Authority hosted the U.S. Transportation
Research Board's 24th annual Summer Ports, Waterways and International
Trade Conference. This was the first time the TRB had held the conference
in a Great Lakes port. Among those participating were:
A: Elwyn Tinklenberg,
Minnesota Department
of Transportation commissioner (left), Duluth Port Director Davis
Helberg (a member of TRB's Ports and Channels Committee) and Albert
Jacquez, U.S. St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation administrator.
B:
Congressman James L. Oberstar of Chisholm, Minn., who spoke at
the opening Sunday night reception.
C:
Guy Veronneau, a conference speaker, is president and chief executive
officer of Canada's St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, Cornwall,
Ont.
D:
U.S. Maritime Administrator Clyde Hart (left), who delivered
the keynote speech. He is shown here with Robert Skinner, Washington,
D.C., TRB national chairman.
E:
State Senator Sam Solon (left), Duluth, who shared a light moment
with Admiral James Hull, commandant, Ninth Coast Guard District,
Cleveland.
