A whale of a tale
Is April First for fools, or just for port directors, Coast Guard captains,
harbor excursion vessel operators and various others who claimed to
see a whale in the Port of Duluth- Superior
that day? Curiously, the sighting was made at the same time that the
show "Whales" was featured at the waterfront Omnimax Theatre.
The photographer documenting the event was one Max Beaver, who said
he had been taking photos of the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge when he was
"blinded by the sunlight and didn't realize the whale was in the
photo until the film was developed." The story caused quite a splash
- even nationally known humorist Garrison Keillor picked up on the
tale.
