Thomas E. Grosser, operations manager Duluth & Nerstrand safety and compliance coordinator for AGP Grain, Ltd., Omaha, Neb., was re-elected to a fourth term as president by the Duluth Seaway Port Authority at its annual meeting in March.

Sharon Clark, deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, was re-elected to her seventh term as vice president. The other officers are Janet E. Nelson, Duluth, secretary; Helena Jackson, Duluth, treasurer; and Steve Raukar, Hibbing, assistant treasurer. Bill Kron, Duluth, and Earl B. Olson, Willmar, complete the board roster.

The board is made up of three appointees by the Duluth City Council, two by the governor and two by the St. Louis County Board.

Suzanne Englebert, executive officer of the Marine Safety Office (MSO) Duluth since July 1997, has been promoted to the rank of commander. Commander Englebert is currently under orders to report to U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D.C., where she will serve as chief of staff of the Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Division.

C. Patrick Labadie, director of the Lake Superior Maritime Museum Visitor Center since 1973, retired in April. The center became the most-visited public tourist site north of the Twin Cities during his watch. He will continue to contribute to this magazine when not otherwise occupied as a Great Lakes historian, marine archeologist, journalist, public speaker, diver and shipwreck investigator.

The Greek cruise vessel Arcadia is scheduled to make two visits to the Port of Duluth-Superior in 2001. The 367-foot, 225-passenger vessel is owned and managed by Golden Sun Cruises of Greece. She will spend the entire 2001 season on the Great Lakes under a charter by Great Lakes Cruises, Inc., of Waukesah, Wis.

The Arcadia will embark on 24 cruises, including day trips to the Twin Ports on August 11 and September 11.

The vessel boasts six passenger decks, 139 cabins, three bars, two lounges, an elevator, hospital, reading room, casino, photo shop, sauna, gymnasium, swimming pool, hairdresser and a duty-free shop.

Cruise prices will range from $430 to $770 for three nights, $570 to $1,030 for four nights and $995 to $1,795 for seven nights (port charges extra). Reservations can be made by calling Great Lakes Cruises, Inc.: (877) 777-4524.

The American Steamship Company has changed the name of its 680-foot vessel Charles E. Wilson to John J. Boland. A frequent Port visitor, the vessel is shown here sporting her new name while berthed at Superior’s Fraser Shipyards.
