New facilities manager named

James D. Sharrow became the Duluth Seaway Port Authority's facilities manager September 1. He will work closely with tenants of 18 Port Authority-owned buildings while providing oversight and planning recommendations for Port lands and equipment. Mr. Sharrow, former engineering and maintenance director for the Duluth-based Great Lakes Fleet, spent 28 years with that company before serving since this past winter as a consultant in naval architecture and marine engineering. He succeeds Tom Kennedy, who retired in October after 39 years of service (see Page 11).

On the front: The Dutch vessel Fairload recently delivered several huge pieces of equipment — just one of many heavy-lift cargoes moving these days via Clure Public Marine Terminal general cargo facilities operated by Lake Superior Warehousing Co., Inc. (See story on Pages 8-9.)

On the back: Sea Service LLC's newly refurbished pilot boat Sea Eagle is a retired Coast Guard utility rescue boat from New York City that was pulled back into service during the September 11 evacuations. She'll now spend happier days on the upper Great Lakes.
