Facts regarding the John A. Blatnik bridge, which spans the Duluth-Superior ship channel, as recently reported from the Duluth News Tribune’s “Did-You-Know” files:

The Blatnik bridge is the second-longest in Minnesota at 7,980 feet, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The highest point on the crown of the bridge is 85 feet above the road.

The clearance is 120 feet above the 600-foot-wide ship channel.

The bridge is lit by 214 70-watt decorative lamps, which were installed in 1996 and replaced in the spring of this year. Also, there are 16 floodlights on the bridge, at 1,000 watts apiece. (See back cover.).
