Port Passings

Larry A. Peters, 74, Duluth, died December 21. Mr. Peters, a longtime Port of Duluth-Superior labor leader, was vice president of the International Long-shoreman's Association for many years. He also held various elected positions with Duluth-Superior ILA locals. He was a foreman for Lake Superior Warehousing Co., Inc., Duluth, from 1991 until his retirement in 1998, and was a founder of ILA Local 2061. He previously worked nearly 15 years for Superior's Midwest Energy Resources Co., and was president of ILA Local 1000. He earlier had served as a union officer and longshoreman in Duluth.

Dr. Rollin Dennistoun, Rosemount, Minn., died in October. Dr. Dennistoun was a founder in 1968 of the Minnesota Agri-Growth Council along with former Port Authority Commissioners Russel Schwandt and Earl B. Olson, and was a champion of Minnesota agriculture. He gained nationwide respect for his leadership on issues important to rural communities, businesses and farmers.

Yrjo (George) Oskar Rajala, 84, Duluth, died November 5. Mr. Rajala was an oiler for the Steinbrenner line, and sailed for many years with the Great Lakes Fleet.
