Former
Port Authority Chairman Fred C. Barrett, 95, of Hibbing,
died on Oct. 27 in Duluth. Mr. Barrett, a St. Louis County
commissioner from 1965 to 1976, was a member of the Port Authority
board from 1967 to 1980 and was board chairman in 1978-79.
He worked in engineering capacities for Oliver Mining Co.,
the M.A. Hanna Co. and Stuntz Township and spent much of his
career as a registered land surveyor.
Clark
B. Luxon, 87, Duluth, died on Oct. 19. Mr. Luxon was employed
for many years by the Duluth Winnipeg and Pacific Railway in
Duluth. He was an active member of the Duluth Superior Transportation
Association from 1951 until his retirement from the DW&P
in 1958 and served as DSTA president in 1984.
William
A. "Bill" Brewster, 74, of Cheboygan, died on
Sept. 7. A career sailor on the Great Lakes, he was employed
by the Bradley Transportation Line and U.S. Steel and Transtar
Companies, spending a record of 25 years sailing on the John
G. Munson, retiring in 1993.
