Global leader UPS is a perfect fit
UPS nearly doubled its Duluth location in 2001, building its operation to 30,000 square feet here.

If the Twin Ports of Duluth-Superior are all about transportation — and they are — then United Parcel Service is a perfect fit. And it is.

In 1968, UPS — then and now the world's largest package delivery company — became the Port Authority's second-ever tenant at its Clure Public Marine Terminal. "Brown," as the company is called affectionately, has been thriving in this waterfront community ever since.

UPS is primarily engaged in the delivery of packages and documents throughout the United States and in more than 200 other countries and territories. It also provides logistics services, including supply chain management.

"Overall we've done well in Duluth," said David Taylor, real estate manager for the company's western region. He's based in Omaha, Neb.

"That's the reason we decided to expand here. This location has the connections and space needed for our operation," he said.

The company nearly doubled the size of its Duluth location in 2001, adding a $2.3 million, 14,000-square-foot addition to the existing 16,000 square-foot facility at the Clure Terminal. The Port Authority leased UPS an additional 1.7 acres to accommodate the expansion. The Duluth branch of UPS now has 115 full-time employees.

As indicated by the statistics that accompany this article, UPS is a global leader in supply chain services, offering an extensive range of options for synchronizing the movement of goods.
