James
Randolph Marshall, 75, Duluth, died September 17. From 1968 until
his retirement in 2003, he worked for Columbia Steel Casting Company.
He was the captain of his own boat, Skipper Sam II, and was a
lifetime member of Duluth Power Squadron and was Port Captain for Duluth
for the Great Lakes Cruising Club. He authored the book “Lake Superior
Journal” and was author/ contributor and editor of the book “Shipwrecks
of Lake Superior”.
Karen
Helberg worked for about five years at the U.S. Steel Corp.,
and for the past 15 years operated a custom framing business. She loved
traveling and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
Howard
L. Boynton, 87, Duluth, died September 27. He joined the Navy
Reserve in 1939, beginning his active duty in 1940 with the U.S.S. Paducah.
He continued service in the Navy Reserve for 39 years, retiring in 1978.
Captain
Luther H. Blount, 90, Warren, R.I., died September 24. An engineer
by trade, Captain Blount was best known as a shipbuilder and cruise operator.
