William Gardner in November accepted the position of director of freight, rail and waterways in the Office of Freight and Commercial Vehicle Operations for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Mr. Gardner came to MN/DOT in 1999 as a project manager in the ITS program, and he has more than 27 years of experience in both the public and private transportation sectors.

Al Klein resumed his position as Duluth area engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in November. He had been serving as acting area engineer at the Soo Locks in Sault. Ste. Marie, Mich., for four months.

Edwin V. Priem Jr., director, Mormac Marine Group, Inc., Duluth; Lisa Marciniak, port promotion manager, Duluth Seaway Port Authority, and Dennis Medjo, attractions manager for the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, were elected in January to the board of directors of the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association. The LSMMA, a non-profit organization, supports the Corps of Engineers-owned Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center through fundraising projects while also helping to preserve the region's maritime history with publications and programs.

John M. Loftus joined the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority as vice president of regional development in January. He replaced Deb Janik, who accepted a position with the Greater Cleveland Partnership. Mr. Loftus had been a special assistant to the mayor of Toledo and previously was the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority's seaport director.
