An effort is underway to restore the whaleback Meteor, now on museum duty in Superior. Susan Anderson, executive director of the Superior Public Museums, said a Historic Structures Report is being prepared to plan restoration efforts and provide a guide for executing the overall project.

In the process of preparing the report, today’s Meteor crew wants to amass as much historical data on the whalebacks and the Meteor as they can find so their ultimate restoration will be authentic. Toward that end, they are asking for help from the public. They ask that people keep their eyes open for whaleback artifacts, photos and memorabilia. They also hope to hear from crew members and their families.

Also, the project needs research assistance to help examine known collections and beyond.Financial support is also being accepted.
