Full-service fueling station coming soon
A new full-service vessel-fueling station should be opening soon in
the Port of Duluth-Superior.
As this issue of Minnesota's World Port went to press,
Murphy Oil USA, Inc., and the Seaway Port Authority of Duluth were in final negotiations
on a long-term lease of property formerly used as a tank farm at the Port-Authority-owned
Clure Public Marine Terminal. If all goes as planned, the fueling station will be
operational this fall.
Murphy Oil's new state of the art station is expected
to include four tanks for adequate bunker fuel material storage. Operating equipment has
been designed to load a dockside vessel forward and aft simultaneously so that a vessel
does not have to shift position. Delivery pumps are designed to provide maximum fuel
delivery rates.
The project would provide Superior's Murphy refinery
with a marine fueling market in its own back yard, with Great Lakes vessels expected to be
the station's primary customers.
